Functional Testing

Naturopathic Doctors can order the same blood tests you are use to with your MD. However, sometimes these standard tests do not provide insight into what is going on and will come back normal when you do not feel well. Specialized or Functional medicine tests can then be used to take a deeper look at your health.

The most commonly used specialized tests in our clinic include:

Food Sensitivity/ Food Allergy Testing

Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) Testing

When normal bacteria ends up in the small intestine it can cause issues that result in a variety of symptoms that can range from bloating, abdominal gas, flatulence, pain, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, GERD, food sensitivities, headaches, joint pain, fatigue, skin symptoms, respiratory issues, mood changes, fatty stool, anemia and weight loss.

Hormone Testing

Comprehensive stool and parasite Testing

To assess digestion problems such as gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, IBS and malabsorption. Key markers are digestion are tested to look at inflammation, absorption, parasites, and determine what gut flora you have or lack.

Hormones play many different roles in the body. Advanced urine testing determines what hormones your body is producing, where they are going and how they are being processed. This can be helpful to treat insomnia, anxiety, depression, headaches, hot flashes, fatigue, acne, weight gain, PCOS, decreased libido, male pattern baldness and mood changes.

Vitamin D Testing

Heavy Metal Testing

Toxic elements can block essential elements from being absorbed. Toxic elements can accumulate in our bodies over years of small exposure and when this happens the increased burden can cause nervous system symptoms (tingling in hands and feet, mental confusion, abnormal gait) heart disease, digestive upset (vomiting, diarrhea or IBS).

Micronutrient Testing

Organic acid tests can determine functional vitamin and mineral statue, amino acid insufficiencies, oxidative damage, detox capacity, functional B vitamin requirements, neurotransmitter status, mitochondrial status, or methylation sufficiency.

Most commonly ordered blood tests include:

- Thyroid Panel (looking at more than just TSH)
- Iron, Ferritin
- Vitamin B12
- Cholesterol
- Liver function tests
- CBC
